Vol. 409 No. 10

Written Answers. - Good Conduct Medal Replacement.

Patrick McCartan

Question:

30 Mr. McCartan asked the Minister for Defence if a replacement award for the good conduct medal is under examination; when it will be finalised; if it will include a reference to the Nobel Award to UN peacekeeping forces; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A review of the criteria for the award of the good conduct medal is in progress and will be completed as quickly as possible.

Service with the United Nations is not a prerequisite for the award of the good conduct medal.

The United Nations peacekeepers medal which is distinct from the good conduct medal is awarded to members of the Permanent Defence Forces who have served overseas with the United Nations.
