Vol. 409 No. 10

Written Answers. - Social Employment Schemes.

Liam Aylward

Question:

50 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Labour if it is his intention to carry on the social employment schemes which are operating under the various local authorities throughout the country after 1991 in view of the fact that some statements to the contrary have recently been made.

The social employment scheme is being continued with a revised target of 12,500 participants for end-1991 as announced in the joint Government/ICTU statement of 5 June 1991. Local authorities continue to be eligible to participate on the same basis as before where projects are submitted to FÁS for approval. The processing of projects is, of course, a day to day matter for FÁS.
