Vol. 410 No. 2

Written Answers. - Limerick Railway Crossing Restructuring.

Peadar Clohessy

Question:

241 Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if there are any plans to restructure the railway crossing at Ballinacourty, Lisnagry, County Limerick in the interest of public safety.

The Chairman of CIE has advised me that Iarnród Éireann and Limerick County Council have had discussions regarding a proposal, by the latter, to widen the level crossing at Ballinacourty, Lisnagry, Co. Limerick, in line with the width of the approach roads on each side. Arising from these discussions Iarnród Éireann have prepared outline proposals for a locally operated skirted barrier crossing to replace the existing timber gates and the basis of an agreement to cover the change in the characteristics of the level crossing has been agreed with Limerick County Council. The cost of the changes involved will be borne by the County Council.
