Vol. 410 No. 3

Written Answers. - Dublin Remedial Works.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

31 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Finance when the remedial works to the lane between the filled in section of the Grand Canal and the back of Mount Shannon Road, Dublin 8, including the clearing of the debris and the tarmacadam of the surface as promised by the owners of the canal to the residents of Mount Shannon Road, will commence; the length of time it will take to complete works; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In 1974 the section of the Grand Canal between Suir Road Bridge, Kilmainham and James's Street Harbour was transferred from the then owners of the canal, CIE, to Dublin Corporation and it was developed by Dublin Corporation as a linear park.

Accordingly, this did not form part of the canal undertaking which was transferred from CIE to the Commissioners of Public Works under the Canals Act, 1986, and the commissioners have no responsibility in this matter.
