Vol. 410 No. 3

Written Answers. - Crime in Finglas.

James C. Tunney

Question:

60 Mr. Tunney asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to the anxiety and concern among the public and business community in Finglas village, Dublin 11, and other shopping centres following the recent escalation of violence and robberies; and if he will arrange for an increased and more permanent Garda presence in these areas.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that, following a number of robberies in the locality in May and early June, Finglas village and other shopping centres in the area have been given special Garda attention by way of traditional foot patrols by uniformed gardaí and special patrols by the divisional task force. The local Garda officers report that these measures are proving successful and that the situation will continue to be kept under review.
