Vol. 410 No. 3

Written Answers. - Hospital Bed Closures.

Edward Nealon

Question:

62 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Health if he will outline the number of wards and the number of beds to be closed in Sligo General Hospital this summer; the duration of such closures; and the effect this will have on the waiting lists for elective hospital treatment.

The North-Western Health Board have advised me that 71 beds will be closed during the month of August. This is to coincide with periods when staff are on annual leave and has been the practice since 1985. All emergency and urgent services will, of course, continue to be provided.
