Vol. 410 No. 7

Written Answers. - Lismore (Waterford) Salmon Hatchery.

Austin Deasy

Question:

38 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for the Marine if he will provide funds for Cappoquin salmon and trout angling association to restore the salmon hatchery on the River Blackwater at Lismore, County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on his policy in regard to such hatcheries.

There are no plans at present to provide funds to restore the salmon hatchery on the River Blackwater at Lismore. There is already a salmon hatchery on the Blackwater operated by the Southern Regional Fisheries Board which serves all the river.

The need for a hatchery in any area has to be considered in the context of the catchment in which it is located and the region it is intended to serve.
