Vol. 411 No. 1

Written Answers. - Killarney (County Kerry) Employment Exchange.

Michael Moynihan

Question:

355 Mr. Moynihan asked the Minister for Social Welfare the present position in relation to the provision of improved employment exchange facilities in Killarney, County Kerry.

My Department's services to the unemployed in Killarney and its surrounding area are provided through a branch employment office.

A new branch manager was appointed in Killarney on 1 December 1989. She was given a seven year contract, subject to her providing alternative premises to those in use at present. She acquired premises at Bohereencael, Glebe, Killarney which was considered suitable by my Department, subject to renovations. However, she was refused planning permission for the renovations and this decision was upheld on appeal. The branch manager has now identified another premises which, subject to renovations and planning permission, would be deemed suitable by my Department.

Every effort is being made to ensure that the services provided in this branch office are moved to new and improved premises as soon as possible.
