Vol. 411 No. 1

Written Answers. - Junior Liaison Officer Scheme.

Tony Gregory

Question:

376 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice if he will outline, regarding the formal cautioning of juvenile offenders by the gardaí under the junior liaison officer's scheme, the number of persons so cautioned during each of the past five years; and where the current guidelines for this scheme can be obtained.

The statistics of cautions administered under the juvenile liaison officer scheme in each of the five years up to and including 1990 are contained in the Garda Commissioner's Annual Report on crime which is available in the Oireachtas Library.

Garda procedures for dealing with juvenile offenders under the juvenile liaison officer scheme are set out in a document entitled "Policy of an Garda Síochána in respect of juvenile offenders and Guidelines for the implementation of procedures in dealing with juvenile offenders", which is also available in the Library.
