Vol. 411 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Kildare Recreational Facilities.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

480 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give favourable consideration to the proposal for the provision of a swimming pool at Leixlip, County Kildare; if funding from the proceeds from the national lottery will be allocated to this project; if his attention has been drawn to the need for such facilities in this developing community; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Question:

491 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to proposals for the provision of a swimming pool and other recreational facilities adjacent to the Maynooth Post Primary school in County Kildare to be funded jointly by the school authorities and the local community and destined for public use generally; his views on the merit of such a proposal; if he will make the necessary extra finance available either by way of funds from the proceeds of the national lottery or by some other means, in view of the growing needs arising from an expanding population; his views on the desirability of location of such facilities in growth centres; if he will give favourable consideration to this request either in the current year or in 1992; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 480 and 491 together.

Consideration of a possible grant for a particular swimming pool project does not arise unless and until the project is recommended by the local authority. No such recommendation has been made by Kildare County Council to my Department in respect of these two projects.
