Vol. 411 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dublin Hospital Waiting List.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

523 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for Health if he can assist a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12 who has been on the waiting list for removal of varicose veins in the vein clinic, St. James's Hospital since March 1988 and who has now been told that it will be a minimum of two years wait before her operation.

The Deputy will appreciate that the treatment and admission of a patient to hospital is a matter for the consultant concerned, and urgent cases are always accorded priority. I understand from inquiries made that this patient is on the routine varicose veins waiting list at St. James's Hospital. Should the patient consider that her condition has deteriorated and that an urgent appointment is warranted, she should contact her general practitioner with a view to expediting an appointment with the consultant.
