It is proposed to take Questions Nos. 112 to 128, 131 to 139 and 141 to 143 together.

The Government first decided to allocate national lottery funding for arts, culture and the Irish language projects on 8 May 1987.

In the period 1987-88 a total of £10.977 million was allocated by my Department to arts and culture projects.

During this time, decisions regarding grants payable to arts and culture projects were made in each case following careful consideration of the particular project's merit. The following Table A shows the amount of lottery grants paid by my Department in 1987 and 1988 on a county by county basis.

It is not possible to give the breakdown as requested on the basis of particular constituencies as this information is not available.

I indicated to the Dáil on 29 November 1988 that, in general, lottery funding for the arts, other than the funding of national cultural institutions, would be distributed by the Arts Council.
A total of £31,343,000 including lottery and Exchequer funding was disbursed by the Arts Council in the period 1987 to 31 December 1990.
The Arts Council enjoys statutory independence in how they disburse their funds and Deputies may wish to contact the Council directly for details of spending on individual counties.
A number of grants have been made available by my Department on a once-off basis to particular projects since 1988.
These include:
Dublin 1991 City of Culture Programme £1.25 million.
Galway Arts Centre £1.30 million.
Limerick Tercentenary £0.30 million.
Duke of Northumberland Hoard (to purchase) £0.145 million.
Tall Ships' Race (Cork) £0.05 million.
My Department continues to allocate national lottery funding to the national cultural institutions.
The National Heritage Council offers once-off grants to projects relating to the physical heritage. Offers are made following applications to, and assessment by, the Council.
The following Table B sets out the distribution of those offers of funding.
In the case of Dublin North Constituency, St. Doulagh's Restoration Committee were the only organisation offered a grant from the National Heritage Council and this grant, which amounted to £20,000, was availed of in full.
Léiríonn Táblaí C agus D na sonraí maidir le Roinn na Gaeltachta.
