Question:

41 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs whether Ireland fulfilled its promise to pay out £275,000 to the stricken people of Bangladesh following the recent cyclone in that country in conjunction with our EC partners.

Yes, on 2 May 1991, £75,000 was allocated to Concern and £50,000 to the United Nations Disaster Relief Organisation (UNDRO).

On 16 May 1991, £75,000 was allocated to Trocaire, £25,000 to OXFAM, £20,000 to World Vision of Ireland, £20,000 to the Irish Red Cross Society and £10,000 to Christian Aid.

Receipt of these allocations has been acknowledged by the agencies concerned.
