Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Paul Connaughton — The case of an 11-year old girl who has been awaiting confirmation, from Beaumont Hospital, of arrangements for further treatment, since last July; (2) Deputy Nora Owen — Whether the Minister for Health intends instructing the national drugs advisory boards to withdraw the drug Halcyon which has been banned in the USA; (3) Deputy Richard Bruton — Whether the new schedule of fees agreed at the weekend by the Irish Hospital Consultants' Association are in accord with competition law, and whether the Minister believes intervention in the setting of fees by professional associations would be in the public interest; (4) Deputy Michael Ferris — In the light of the recent findings of world-wide research into the effects of the drug Halcyon and the recent decision of the British Government to remove this drug from general use, if the Minister for Health will outline the steps he is taking to review the use of this drug on the Irish medical market; (5) Deputy Alan Dukes — The reports that the abattoir at the Curragh Camp, County Kildare, is to be let by the Minister for Defence to a commerical operator and re-opened for the slaughter of livestock; (6) Deputy John Connor — The recent report in the media detailing the accumulation of a private collection of archaeological items and treasures excavated in contravention of the National Monuments Acts; (7) Deputy Bill Cotter — The danger of pollution in Monalty Lake, Carrickmacross, the water source for a group water scheme supplying in excess of 500 houses; (8) Deputy Gerry O'Sullivan — The dangers of submarine traffic to the Irish fishing fleet in the Irish Sea; (9) Deputy Pat Rabbitte — The urgent matter of the construction of the Tallaght Regional Hospital; (10) Deputy Jimmy Deenihan — The serious crisis in the motor trade as a result of the importation of used Japanese cars; (11) Deputy Paul McGrath — The failure of the Minister for Education to appoint an assistant teacher to St. Mary's Christian Brothers Primary School, Mullingar, despite the fact that student numbers warrant such an appointment; (12) Deputy Mervyn Taylor — The present position regarding the Tallaght Hospital Project, Tallaght, County Dublin; (13) Deputy Bernard Durkan — If the Minister for Education will urgently review the need to provide for extra accommodation and other facilities at a number of post-primary schools in County Kildare, and (14) Deputy Eric Byrne — The date set for receipt of submissions to the Minister for Health for the preparation of details of legislation and subsequent implementation on the proposed re-organisation of the Eastern Health Board.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by the following Deputies:— (1) Deputy Gerry O'Sullivan; (2) Deputy John Connor; (3) Deputy Alan Dukes.
