Vol. 411 No. 5

Written Answers. - Cork Down River Crossing.

Gerry O'Sullivan

Question:

50 Mr. G. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for the Environment when the downstream crossing of the River Lee will be commenced; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Peter Barry

Question:

66 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for the Environment when he expects to have the environmental impact study, relating to the down river crossing of the River Lee, completed.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 50 and 66 together.

Cork Corporation are preparing an environmental impact statement in respect of the link road from the southern ring road to the proposed crossing and, at my request, have extended the scope of the statement to include the proposed tunnel. I understand that the corporation expect to submit the statement to me in early November. If, in the light of the statement, I am satisfied that the works are acceptable on environmental grounds, it should be possible, subject to completion by the corporation of the necessary tender and contract procedures, to get to construction stage in 1993.
