Vol. 411 No. 5

Written Answers. - Eye Operation Delay.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

120 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Health the reason a person (details supplied) in County Tipperary is waiting for over two months for a bed in Ardkeen Hospital, Waterford for an eye operation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have been informed that the person referred to by the Deputy is on the waiting list for his operation since 29 June 1991.

I do not consider it appropriate for me to comment on the clinical details of an individual patient. The decision with regard to when a patient will have his/her operation performed is a matter for the consultant concerned and the Deputy will appreciate that it is not a matter in which I have any involvement.

If this patient's condition has deteriorated, he should contact his general practitioner who would be in the best position to take up the matter with his consultant.
