Vol. 411 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Transport Service.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

128 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education the reason free school transport has been withdrawn in respect of children attending the Presentation Convent primary school, Maynooth, when there are more than ten children eligible for the service; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The service in question was withdrawn at the end of 1990-91 school year after the school management had been notified of the possibility because the number of eligible children actually availing of the service fell below the minimum required — ten — under the primary school transport scheme.

Information available to date would suggest that there has been no change in the situation. However, I will be happy to have the matter looked at within my Department.
