Vol. 411 No. 7

Written Answers. - Means Assessment.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

134 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason a person (details supplied) in County Kildare was assessed with means of £9,000 per annum when he has been unemployed since 18 July 1991 and has no means whatsoever due to the fact that his haulier's licence is no longer applicable; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The means assessment of the person concerned was based on information he provided in September in relation to his ability to achieve the level of earnings involved. At the time of the interview the person concerned was believed to be temporarily suspended from driving his lorry. He indicated that he hoped to resume his self-employment from mid-September 1991.

In view of the information provided by the Deputy, i.e. that the person's haulier's licence is no longer applicable, arrangements are being made to have the case re-investigated.
