Vol. 411 No. 7

Written Answers. - Driving Test Charges.

Ivor Callely

Question:

158 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline (1) the total revenue which accrued to his Department from driving test charges in 1990 and (2) the breakdown of the cost of operating the driving test service.

Income from driver testing fees in 1990 was £2,258,000. The cost of the driver testing service in that year is estimated at £2,789,000 of which £2,161,000 was related to pay. The balance was made up mainly of costs relating to travel and subsistence and the rents, heating, lighting, cleaning, etc. of test centres.
