Question:42 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if he will outline his plans for the provision of late night public transport over the Christmas period; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Written Answers. - Public Transport Proposals.
I propose to permit private bus operators to provide late night services in Dublin and throughout the rest of the country for about six weeks over the Christmas period. It is also the intention of Dublin Bus to provide late night services during the same period.
On my initiative, discussions have commenced with Dublin Bus and representatives of private sector operators regarding the provision of such services on as comprehensive and integrated a basis as possible. Plans for the late night services are being prepared at present and I hope to be in a position to announce details of the arrangements in the very near future.
