Question:130 Mr. Carey asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when the Leader programme applicants will be selected; and if he will outline the guidelines which will be used for selection under this programme.

A decision on the business plans which will be selected for funding is expected to be announced by the EC Commission in two stages in December 1991 and February 1992.
The selection of successful groups will be based on the general criteria contained in the Leader initiative i.e., guarantee of solvency of the group; administrative ability, know-how and expertise on rural development; local presence and participation of leading figures in the local economy and society; quality of the business plan.
