Question:

69 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he will make a statement on a recent report by Comhairle na nOspidéal that Ireland's plastic surgery services are fragmented, inadequate and understaffed; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Question:

70 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he proposes to set up formal training in plastic surgery, up to senior registrar level, nationwide.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 68, 69 and 70 together.

The Comhairle na nOspidéal report on plastic surgery services has been submitted recently to my Department. The creation of extra posts and the establishment of a national centre, as recommended in the report, will be considered as sympathetically as possible by my Department in the context of the resources available and the many competing demands for new developments throughout the health services.
The question of the establishment of further formal training posts in plastic surgery would be a matter, in the first instance, for the Irish Surgical Post-Graduate Training Committee of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
