Vol. 413 No. 1

Written Answers. - Lough Mask (Mayo) Water Supply.

Jim Mitchell

Question:

133 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for the Environment if his consent has been sought for the signing of a contract which would link Claremorris, County Mayo to the Lough Mask water supply; if so, if he will now approve the contract; if he will outline when Claremorris is likely to receive water for the supply; if he has satisfied himself that sufficient steps have been taken to prevent future contamination of the Lough Mask water supply; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

While contract documents for a scheme to extend the Lough Mask water supply from Ballinrobe to Claremorris are under consideration in my Department at present, related site investigation works are still in progress. Approval of the contract documents must await the results of these investigations.

I am not aware of any existing contamination threat to the Lough Mask water supply or source.
