Vol. 413 No. 1

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funding for Wheelchair Association.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

110 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Social Welfare if favourable consideration will be given to the award of a grant from the proceeds of the national lottery to the Athy Branch of the Irish Wheelchair Association; if his attention has been drawn to the tremendous work carried out by this body; if such moneys are likely to be made available in 1992; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

An application for funding under the 1991 scheme of grants to voluntary bodies administered by my Department and funded from the proceeds of the national lottery has not been received from the organisation in question.

It is not possible to consider a late application from the organisation concerned as the £750,000 available under the scheme in the current year has been allocated in full.

The allocation of funds for this scheme next year is a matter for decision in the context of the 1992 Estimates.

Question:

111 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Social Welfare if favourable consideration will be given to the award of a grant from the proceeds of the national lottery to the North Kildare Branch of the Irish Wheelchair Association; if his attention has been drawn to the tremendous work carried out by this body; if such moneys are likely to be made available in 1992; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A grant of £5,000 was approved for the organisation in question under this year's scheme of grants to voluntary bodies. A payable order for this amount has issued to the group.

The allocation of funds for this scheme next year is a matter for decision in the context of the 1992 Estimates.
