Vol. 413 No. 1

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Michael Joe Cosgrave

Question:

122 Mr. Cosgrave asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received details of a scheme from Dublin Corporation to refurbish Swansnest Court flats complex, Kilbarrack, Dublin 5; when he intends to make finance available to Dublin Corporation in order that these refurbishment works can commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

An application for funding under the remedial works scheme has been received and is being examined; a decision on the eligibility under the scheme of the works proposed will be made as soon as possible. However, the priority rating accorded to this estate by the corporation vis-à-vis other estates, the financial commitments on the corporation's eight approved projects and the overall high demand by local authorities for funding under the scheme would not allow the designation of Swansnest Court at this stage, even if the works proposed are deemed eligible under the scheme. The management, maintenance and improvement of their housing estates and the fixing of priorities between different estates are matters for the corporation.
