Vol. 413 No. 3

Written Answers. - Appointment of Remedial Teacher.

Paul Bradford

Question:

69 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Education if he has received an application from a school (details supplied) in County Cork for the appointment of a remedial teacher; and if so, whether the appointment will be approved.

I have received a request for a remedial teacher from the school in question.

As the Deputy will be aware, 80 additional remedial posts serving over 240 schools were allocated this year under arrangements under theProgramme for Economic and Social Progress.
These appointments were made following the collection of data and information by my Department's primary inspectorate from schools. The posts were then allocated on the basis of priority of need, as indicated by the information collected by the inspectorate.
The needs of other schools, including the school mentioned by the Deputy, will be kept under review.
