Vol. 413 No. 3

Written Answers. - Gort (Galway) School.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

71 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Education if he will take over responsibility for Lurga national school, Gort, County Galway which is at present under the control of the Office of Public Works; and when the reconstruction grant will be sanctioned for this school.

Maintenance of this school is a function of the Office of Public Works.

A grant has been approved for a scheme of improvement works, the first phase of which has been completed. It is expected that the second phase, which involves the provision of a toilet block, will be completed by next summer.

As part of the realignment of functions, arrangements are being made for the transfer to the Minister for Education of the ownership and maintenance responsibilities in respect of a number of schools, including this school, which are currently vested in the Office of Public Works.
