55 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for the Marine the total value of fish landings from the latest available year; the ports at which these landings were made; the value of each species landed; and the numbers employed in the entire operation.
The latest year for which statistics are available is 1989. In that year the value of seafish, excluding salmon, landed by Irish registered vessels into Irish ports was IR£78,115,912. Fish may be landed at any one of almost 150 landing places around the coast. A list of the top 50 ports, which account for 93 per cent of landings by value, is below. A list showing the value of each species is also below. It should be noted that seafish, excluding salmon, with a value of IR£7,542,374 were landed by Irish registered vessels into foreign ports during 1989.
