Vol. 413 No. 5

Written Answers. - Passport Statistics.

Dinny McGinley

Question:

61 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the total number of passports issued to date during 1991; and the number of renewals and new applications received.

In the ten-month period from 1 January to 31 October 1991, 151, 918 new passports were issued by the passport offices in Dublin and Cork. This figure includes passports issued to first time applicants and passports issued to persons replacing their previous passports. During the same period the two offices renewed 11,849 passports.

I regret that, at this stage, it is not possible to provide precise statistics for passports issued or renewed this year at our embassies and consulates abroad. However the figures for this year are broadly comparable to those for last year when our missions processed a total of 47,397 applications.
