Vol. 413 No. 6

Written Answers. - Recycling Projects Allocation.

Michael Moynihan

Question:

44 Mr. Moynihan asked the Minister for the Environment the amount of money allocated by his Department to recycling projects in 1991; if he has satisfied himself with the level of recycling currently being carried out in Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The total funds available to my Department for recycling projects in 1991 is £400,000. While recycling levels have been increasing, particularly in relation to glass and cans, overall recycling performance in Ireland is low by international standards. For this reason, it has been decided to commission a study to assess the potential for further recycling in Ireland from the domestic/commercial waste stream and to advise on strategies for increasing recycling levels.
