Vol. 413 No. 7

Written Answers. - Tourist Accommodation..

Paul Connaughton

Question:

130 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if his Department have any plans to curtail the activities of nonregistered bed and breakfast premises; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

All bed and breakfast premises, including those not on Bord Fáilte's approved list, are subject to the usual legislative requirements regarding safety, food hygiene, taxation, public liability and so forth. There are no plans to depart from current arrangements whereby Bord Fáilte, the body with responsibility for regulating standards in tourist accommodation, continue to actively promote and encourage operators to participate in their voluntary approval system which offers advantages such as inclusion in all marketing material and reservations systems operated by the bord.
