Vol. 413 No. 9

Written Answers. - Future Curriculum on Irish.

Séamus Pattison

Question:

43 Mr. Pattison asked the Minister for Education if he intends to review the teaching of Irish in our primary schools in relation to (1) the replacement of Buntús, (2) the provision of resources for the teaching of Irish and (3) motivation and attitude towards the language; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As the Deputy is aware the Primary Curriculum Review Body made certain recommendations regarding Irish in the curriculum. The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment have now established a committee to examine the recommendations of this report and consider the views of interested parties with a view to advising on the formulation of a future curriculum on Irish.
