Vol. 413 No. 9

Written Answers. - Exchequer Cost.

Tony Gregory

Question:

115 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Finance the cost to the Exchequer if the Programme for Economic and Social Progress commitments to the public service are adhered to and the amount that would return to the Exchequer by way of PAYE/PRSI returns from those pay increases.

The estimated cost to the Exchequer of new pay increases for public service employees in 1992 is in the region of £200 million.

It is impossible to estimate, with any degree of accuracy, the amount of such expenditure that would return to the Exchequer via PAYE/PRSI deductions from the staff involved.
