Question:

35 Mr. McEllistrim asked the Minister for Defence the number of people drawing (1) a military service pension and (2) a military special allowance pension in the country.

There are 285 veterans of the War of Independence in receipt of military service pensions and 665 in receipt of special allowances under the Army Pensions Acts. In addition, allowances are payable to slightly in excess of 5,000 spouses of deceased veterans.
