Written Answers. - Defence Forces Personnel.

Question:

55 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Defence the number, by rank and command, of personnel at NCO or private equivalent level, who have left the Defence Forces this year, by month, to 31 October, (2) the number of personnel who are provided for in the agreed estimates for pay purposes for the year 1991, (3) the strength of the Defence Forces at NCO and private equivalent level as at 31 October 1991; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In the period from 1 January 1991 to 31 October 1991 a total of 238 NCO's and privates were discharged from the Permanent Defence Forces while a further 46 were transferred to the first line reserve.

The 1991 Defence Estimate provided for an average other ranks strength of 11,225. The other ranks strength on 31 October 1991 was 11,464, comprising 5,099 NCO's and 6,365 privates.
