Vol. 414 No. 2

Written Answers. - “Mulder” Milk Quotas.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

43 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will outline the provision, if any, whereby holders of "Mulder" milk quotas may sell or lease their quotas in the event of termination of their dairying enterprise following outbreak of disease; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Under the present EC regulations, a "Mulder" milk quota may only be transferred by way of inheritance. There is no provision for the sale or lease of a "Mulder" quota in any circumstances, including disease outbreak. The milk quota regulations are being reviewed as part of the current negotiations on the Common Agricultural Policy. It is not yet clear whether this restriction on "Mulder" quotas will continue under the revised quota regulations which will be effective from 1 April 1992.
