A joint EC Energy/ Environmental Council of October 1990 agreed the policy of stabilisation of carbon dioxide emissions by the year 2000 at 1990 levels in the Community as a whole. A further joint Council is shortly to consider measures necessary to achieve this objective, on the basis of a recent Commission communication.
My Department are currently preparing, in consultation with other relevant Departments, a national strategy for limiting carbon dioxide emissions.
