Vol. 414 No. 4

Written Answers. - Parking Regulations.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

194 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for the Environment if, in light of media reports that regulations were being prepared controlling parking by parents of schoolchildren outside their schools, he will outline (1) if his Department and the Garda Authority have finalised the details of the proposals; (2) when he intends making the new regulations; and (3) if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department and the Garda authorities are currently finalising these details and I expect to make regulations soon prescribing the necessary roadway markings. The making of the appropriate traffic and parking by-laws, or temporary rules, is a matter for the Garda Commissioner. It will be a matter for local authorities, in consultation with the Garda, to decide in due course at which school entrances roadway markings are to be provided.
