Vol. 414 No. 4

Written Answers. - Remedial Teacher Appointments.

David Andrews

Question:

231 Mr. Andrews asked the Minister for Education if he will appoint, as a matter of urgency, a remedial teacher for Archbishop McQuaid national school, Loughlinstown, County Dublin.

Seán Barrett

Question:

254 Mr. S. Barrett asked the Minister for Education if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the senior school in Archbishop McQuaid national school, Loughlinstown, Dún Laoghaire, County Dublin has no access to a remedial teacher; and if he has any plans to rectify this situation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 231 and 254 together.

As the Deputies will be aware, 80 additional remedial posts serving over 240 schools were allocated this year under arrangements under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress.

The appointments were made following the collection of data and information by my Department's primary inspectorate from schools. The posts were then allocated on the basis of priority of need, as indicated by the information collected by the Inspectorate.

The needs of other schools, including the schools mentioned by the Deputies will be kept under review.
