Vol. 414 No. 4

Written Answers. - Radio Experimenters Licence.

Liam Aylward

Question:

260 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if he will arrange to have a radio experimenters licence issued to a person (details supplied) in County Carlow; and if he will sympathetically reconsider the applicant's wish to be exempted from sitting the radio experimenters examination because of his disability.

While I am prepared to consider this case sympathetically, I cannot agree to the exemption sought in view of my responsibility to ensure the orderly use of the radio frequency spectrum. As the Deputy knows, equipment used by people without a basic knowledge of radio could cause social and international interference. However, because of the Deputy's special interest in this case and because of the person's disability, I have arranged for an examination in radio and equipment use in his own home for the person mentioned.
