Vol. 414 No. 9

Written Answers. - Bread Prices.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

75 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the current price of a standard pan loaf; if the rationalisation of the baking industry resulted in cheaper prices to the consumer; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In the absence of detailed price controls, which ceased in 1986, there is no onus on bakers or retailers to notify me of any price adjustments. Consequently, I have no official information which might allow me to indicate the current price of bread or to compare prices over a period.

I set out my views on rationalisation of the industry in reply to a number of questions in the House on 12 February 1991 — volume 404, colums 2259-2265.

Redundancy Payment.

Liam Aylward

Question:

79 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Labour if he will have arrangements made for payment of redundancy moneys to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny as the appeal has been heard and an award granted.

The person concerned was paid his statutory redundancy lump sum entitlement from the social insurance fund on 26 November 1991. The amount of lump sum paid was based on the decision of the Employment Appeals Tribunal in the case.
