Vol. 415 No. 1

Written Answers. - British Nuclear Installations.

Patrick McCartan

Question:

99 Mr. McCartan asked the Minister for Energy if he will list the accidents or incidents at British nuclear installations which have been notified to his Department during the past five years; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Under informal procedures agreed at meetings of the Ireland-UK Contact Group on Nuclear Matters, my Department are informed promptly of all significant incidents at British nuclear installations which are notified to the UK Department of the Environment. As such incidents are reported on an informal basis and in confidence, I am not at liberty to disclose details. I am satisfied that the contact group and the notification procedure are a valuable forum for the exchange of information and provide me with precise and up-to-date information which is essential for our overall monitoring of UK nuclear installations.
