Vol. 415 No. 3

Written Answers. - Disadvantaged Areas Scheme.

Patrick McCartan

Question:

97 Mr. McCartan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will give details of the information source used by his Department when compiling the list of townlands in each district electoral area for the purpose of delineating the boundaries of the disadvantaged area schemes.

The information gathered in the course of surveys of farms and townlands in 1989 by departmental inspectors, supplemented by CSO information derived from the 1986 Census in relation to the population of district electoral divisions, comprised the database or sources used to measure the level of compliance or non-compliance with the criteria used by the EC to designate townlands as disadvantaged. For cartographic purposes, my Department has relied on the one-inch townland maps published by the Ordnance Survey.
