Vol. 415 No. 4

Written Answers. - Cork Roads Classification.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

70 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Environment the reason none of the main roads in south-west Cork is classified as national primary with 100 per cent Exchequer funding for their repair and maintenance; and whether he has any proposals to change this situation.

Proposals have been received from time to time to re-classify roads in south-west Cork but, while these proosals were carefully examined, it was concluded that the roads did not merit reclassification, having regard to the criteria for national primary roads. Both national primary and national secondary roads are eligible for 100 per cent grants from my Department.
