Vol. 415 No. 4

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Donal Carey

Question:

132 Mr. Carey asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give details of the number of new houses he expects will be started by local authorities during 1992 when completed which will help to reduce the waiting lists in each council area; if he will outline the counties which will benefit; and if he will list the house starts made in the respective areas in 1991.

The capital allocations to local authorities for their 1992 housing construction programmes, which will be notified to the housing authorities as soon as possible, will meet commitments on houses in progress or already authorised and provide for 1,000 additional starts. I cannot indicate the allocation or the number of starts for individual areas until the allocations as a whole are settled.

Returns have not yet been made to my Department by all authorities on the number of houses commenced by them in 1991. However, I would refer to the reply to Questions Nos. 253 and 259 of 17 April 1991 which gave the numbers of new starts authorised for each authority for their 1991 programme.
