Vol. 415 No. 7

Written Answers. - Training Standards.

Peter Barry

Question:

251 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Labour if he will ensure (1) that the Department of Education will continue to provide the Irish examination system which forms part of the final qualification for training persons in Ireland and (2) that no encouragement will be given by FÁS to use other outside bodies.

FÁS have statutory responsibility under the Industrial Training Act, 1967 for setting training standards and determining if the standards set have been achieved.

Future policy in relation to certification will be set out in the forthcoming White Paper on Manpower Policy. Implementation of policy will rest with FÁS.
