169 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he proposes to give additional resources to Eolas for the purpose of providing adequate testing facilities for identification of unsafe products; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
I am informed by Eolas that they have the capacity to test the performance and safety of an extensive range of products. However, having regard to the very wide range of products on the market, the cost of establishing testing facilities at Eolas for all such products would be prohibitive. In these circumstances the policy of Eolas, where it does not have the necessary test capacity, is to refer the client to an alternative source of testing.
