Vol. 415 No. 8

Written Answers. - Transportation of Dangerous Substances.

Phil Hogan

Question:

265 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if she will be promoting the idea of a Community licence to transport dangerous substances; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The question of intensifying controls on the transportation of dangerous substances is a live issue affecting all modes of transport and, therefore, of concern to a number of Government Ministers, including myself, who have responsibilities in relation to transportation matters. We will be contributing, not only within the European Community but also in other international fora, to the ongoing development of further controls on the transportation of dangerous goods appropriate to the particular modes of transport.
