Vol. 415 No. 9

Written Answers. - Third Level Grants.

Bernard Allen

Question:

152 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Education if he intends to change the regulations applying to third level grants in order to extend such grants to seminaries in this country which are essentially third level institutions.

The terms of the Local Authorities (Higher Education Grants) Acts, 1968 and 1978 apply to Irish universities and other approved institutions of higher education as defined in the Acts. In order to qualify for a grant a student must follow a course approved by the Minister for the purpose of the Acts. I have no plans to apply the terms of the Acts in such a manner as to provide for the extension of grant eligibility to attendance at courses in seminaries.
