I propose to take Questions Nos. 27, 31, 41, 76, 116 and 120 together.

The deputies' questions suggest that no post-primary school has guidance provision for students. In fact, all second level schools with an enrolment of 500 pupils or more qualify for an ex-quota guidance teacher and some schools whose enrolment may have fallen below that also have such provision. In addition, it is open to the authorities in post-primary schools to appoint guidance teachers within quota and many do so.

I am very conscious of the need for career guidance and to ensure that greater numbers of pupils have access to it. TheProgramme for Economic and Social Progress provides for the recognition on an ex-quota basis of 0.5 of a wholetime post for guidance in post-primary schools in the 350-499 enrolment category. This concession will be phased in over the next three years and will mean that over 180 additional schools will benefit from guidance provision.
